It’s February, and besides it still being winter in the United States, it’s still the flu season as well. This year, the flu is like no other. The virus has been especially deadly this year and not even the annual flu shot has been enough to tame it. Whether you got the flu shot or not, precaution is still critical for protecting yourself and your family from the flu. In fact, precaution is imperative when dealing with germs and infectious diseases (no matter what the season).
We would like to share some important tips to help keep the cold and flu away from your household. You may already know these, but these must be repeated:
Keep Your Immune System Strong – Your body is fearfully and wonderfully made by The Creator of the universe. Our God gave us amazing immune systems to fight deadly germs so we must keep them in tip-top shape. Strengthen your systems by eating lots of fruits and vegetables (as raw as possible or with little cooking), drinking plenty of pure water, and getting lots of rest to help your body maintain its defenses. Stress, poor and unhealthy eating habits and other factors decrease our immunities so find ways to decrease your stress levels and incorporate simple exercises in your lifestyles (for example, do 15 to 30 minutes of brisk walking daily).
Wash Your Hands Properly And Often – Many do a poor job of washing their hands properly. There is a correct way to do so: wash your hands with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds, washing over all parts of your hands and fingers (from the wrists down). Use a disposable piece of tissue to wipe your hands, to close the faucet and open the door afterwards. When you do not have access to water and soap, use hand sanitizer instead.
Disinfect Home And Personal Items – Door handles, faucets, kitchen counters, cell phones, tablets, computers, remote controls: these are just some items that are heavily used in the home. Disinfect these often, especially when someone is sick.
Keep Your Germs To Yourself – If you are suffering from the cold or flu, or even if you may be an allergy sufferer, chances are you may be sneezing and coughing at times. Use disposable tissues during those moments and disinfect your hands after each use. Avoid sharing personal items and avoid touching surfaces with unwashed hands also.
