Happy new year again! We hope and pray that the first week of 2019 has been wonderful.
It has been quite a mild winter for us in the Northeastern states. For many, the lack of snow feels abnormal and gloomy, but for others it means more time outdoors and less shoveling! By the end of this week (into the middle of next week), we are expecting out first major snow storm. Are you preparing for it? Are you looking forward to it or dreading it?
Like any major life-threatening situation, if there is forewarning there should also be planning. If you are not new to the ‘snowy’ regions of the United States then you already know what to expect and what to do. However, if it’s been a while since you prepared or knew how to preserve your life and others during the severest weather or if you are new to snow, here are some important points to note:
- Stay off roads.
- Stay indoors and dress warmly.
- Prepare for power outages.
- Use generators outside only and away from windows.
- Listen for emergency information and alerts (purchase a battery-enabled radio and have extra batteries handy)
- Look for signs of hypothermia and frostbite.
- Check on neighbors.
We got this list from the Ready.gov website and we encourage you to visit and learn even more life-saving tips today. Are there any other things you would add? Send us an email and let us know! Be safe.
