For many people, the mirror is a painful object. In a world that is obsessed with outward appearances and its definitions of beauty, a mirror reminds many of what they lack or what they want to get rid of.
We can be very hard on ourselves. We may have made a habit of speaking negatively about our bodies, our intellect and our means, but these are very damaging and must be avoided. We should learn to love ourselves, knowing we are created in the very image of The Almighty God, and should praise The Lord for all the positive things we recognized in us that make us unique. Avoid speaking negatively about yourself; make a concerted effort to silence the enemy’s taunts about your faults and inadequacies and strengthen your gifts and God-given traits.
There are often places in our lives that need improvement and that could include our weight, so be gentle on your self-criticisms and do your part to be the healthiest and happiest YOU you can be in Christ. But how do you start? How can you break a cycle of negative self-talk? By understanding your worth.
Here are some bible verses that help remind us all that we are beautiful in God’s sight:
Psalm 139:14 “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.”
Prov 16:24 “Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.”
Prov 31:30 “Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.”
Isaiah 43:7 “Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.”
1 Cor 6:19-20 “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? (20)For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”
Phil 4:8 “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
